my favorite poems…..

I am not a poem lover actually, but once in a blue moon I found poems that really touchy and meaningful (for me of course 🙂 ), so I kept those kind of poems and sometimes I read them as a reminder when I was down or when my mood was in a roller coaster.

And these are some of my favorite poems 🙂

Growth is painful.

There is both joy and suffering on planet earth because this beautiful world is

a world of duality – a world of opposite.

And this opposite (light and dark; near and far; up and down)

is experienced at every level of life.

There are friends and enemies; falling in love and falling out love;

security and uncertainty; wealth and poverty.

On planet earth, everything has its opposite.

Around the corner I have a friend

In this great city that has no end.

Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,

And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friend’s face,

For life is a swift and terrible race.

He knows I like him just as well,

As in the days when I rang his bell,

And he rang mine but we were younger then,

And now we are busy tired men.

Tired of playing a foolish game,

Tired of trying to make a name.

‘Tomorrow’ I say! ‘I will call on Jim’.

‘Just to show that I’m thinking of him’.

But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,

And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,

‘Here’s a telegram sir, ‘Jim died today.’

And that’s what we get and deserve in the end.

Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
‘Good-morning,’ and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich – yes, richer than a king –
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

*Edwin Arlington Robinson*
